Let’s Talk Content

Funeral offers a unique opportunity to honor your loved one in a way that reflects their values, personality, and the relationships they cherished and personalisation of the content is key to expressing their uniqueness.

There are no ‘rules’ or ‘correct things’ to include in a funeral, but here are a few of the typical components that can be personalised:

1. Eulogies and Tributes

The story of your loved one’s life is central to the funeral. This can be a powerful way to highlight the person’s character, accomplishments, and the impact they had on the lives of others. This storytelling can take the form of a eulogy written and read by the celebrant or a tribute by a family member or friend sharing memories, stories, and reflections. Tributes can be spoken, written, or even recorded in videos or slideshows.

2. Music Choices

Music often plays a significant role in setting the tone for a funeral. You might choose songs that were meaningful to your loved one or pieces that evoke the right emotions for the occasion. This could range from classical pieces to contemporary favorites, or even live performances or a sing-along.

3. Memorial Displays

A visual display can serve as a touching tribute. This might include photographs, memorabilia, or art that represents your loved one’s life and passions. Many families create a memory table featuring personal items that reflect their loved one’s interests, hobbies, and milestones.

4. Readings and Poetry

Poetry, literary passages, or personal writings that resonate with their loved one’s spirit can often put into words how you are feeling. These readings can be uplifting, reflective, or even humorous, depending on the individual’s personality.

5. Prayer

A celebrant led funeral can also include prayers or passages from a religious book, such as the bible. The Lord’s Prayer is often a good way to incorporate an element of religion without being too religious.

6. Moment of Silence or Reflection

A moment of silence or reflection provides mourners with an opportunity to pause and remember your loved one in their own way. This can be a profound moment for collective mourning and remembrance.

By holding joy as well as sadness during this time, it is possible to create a funeral which is both a celebration and a lament and I am happy to work with you to weave these ingredients together into a ceremony which reflects the uniqueness of a life. Contact me to have an informal chat.
